Alumni | Life After the Club
Once a Club Kid, Always a Club Kid
Across Southeast Virginia, generations of young people have grown up in our Clubs — learning, leading, and becoming changemakers in their communities. Our alumni are living proof that great futures begin at the Club, and their stories continue to inspire the next generation of members who walk through our doors today.
About Our Alumni Network
Launched as an ongoing connection point for former members, BGCSEVA Alumni exists to celebrate, support, and reconnect those who once called the Club their second home. We strive to highlight alumni success stories, foster networking opportunities, and create pathways for continued involvement in the Boys & Girls Club Movement.
Stay Involved
There are many ways for alumni to stay connected and give back to the Clubs that helped shape them:
1. Volunteer at the Club
Alumni are encouraged to volunteer at any BGCSEVA Club after completing a background check. Volunteers may assist with special programs, serve as event greeters, help with setup and cleanup, or participate as guests during Club activities.
2. Volunteer at Organization Events
From Youth of the Year to The SEVA Way Awards, alumni can join us at signature events to support and celebrate our members’ achievements.
3. Volunteer in the Community
Alumni can also join community service or beautification projects across Hampton Roads, helping to make a visible impact in the neighborhoods we serve.
4. Speaking Engagements
We love inviting alumni to return as guest speakers! Share your story, inspire current Club members, and represent the impact of the Boys & Girls Club experience in your own words.
5. Alumni Networking Events
Our alumni gatherings provide an opportunity to connect with peers, build professional relationships, and celebrate the enduring legacy of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia.

Debbie Day | Honoring a Legacy, Inspiring the Future
On Saturday, September 18, 2021, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia lost one of its most beloved leaders, Mrs. Debbie McGaughey.
For over 25 years, Debbie was the heart, soul, and foundation of BGCSEVA — shaping countless lives and uplifting generations of youth across the Hampton Roads community. Her work at Clubs like Betty F. Williams, W.W. Houston, and Rosemont left an impact that continues to guide our mission today.
A Day to Remember and Give Back
Each year, on November 11th, we celebrate Debbie Day — a tradition that brings our alumni, staff, and community together to honor Debbie’s extraordinary legacy of service, love, and leadership.
While many know November 11th as Veterans Day, for us, Debbie Day is a time to reflect on her example — to serve others, uplift our youth, and carry forward the spirit of compassion she embodied every single day.
On this day, we invite our alumni and friends to come together in unity — to give back, reconnect, and continue the work Debbie devoted her life to.
Support the Debbie McGaughey Scholarship Fund
In her memory, the Debbie McGaughey Scholarship Fund was established to support Club members who demonstrate the same resilience, kindness, and determination that Debbie instilled in every young person she mentored.
Your gift ensures that her legacy lives on — empowering future generations of Boys & Girls Club members to pursue their dreams through education and leadership.
Join us this Debbie Day by making a contribution to the Debbie McGaughey Scholarship Fund and celebrating the woman whose light continues to guide us all.
