The Boys and Girls Club first became available to me when I was in middle school. A few of my closest friends attended their after-school program and told me how much fun they had. It was my first time going, so I was unsure about going, but we went on fun trips and played on different sports teams. There was more to it than just having fun. I used it as an outlet to stay off the streets and focus on my schoolwork and my future. As a result, I was able to reel in amazing opportunities that can come from being surrounded by good mentors and positive influences. My love for basketball also grew there, and I continued to play basketball throughout high school. In return, I have been blessed in so many ways. As a result of staying focused throughout my high school years, I was able to break records and receive many accolades.
My experience at the Boys & Girls Club contributed significantly to that focus. I’m currently excelling in my sophomore year of college at Norfolk State University and I’m an integral part of the Men’s basketball team there. Currently, I am majoring in Exercise Science with a concentration in Health Wellness and Rehabilitation. My sincere thanks go out to the Boys & Girls Club for everything they did for me. I am forever thankful!
