Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia

PORTSMOUTH VA – Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia is excited to announce that Elizabeth River Crossings (ERC) has awarded $15,000 to help fund Academic Success and Character & Leadership programs at the Boys & Girls Club in Portsmouth.

Boys & Girls Club programming is designed to empower youth to excel in school, become good citizens and lead healthy, productive lives. Boys & Girls Clubs’ Academic Success and Character & Leadership programs in particular are designed to ensure that all Club members graduate from high school on time, ready for a post-secondary education and a 21stcentury career as well as developing leadership skills and gaining opportunities for planning, decision-making, and contributing to Club and community.

On April 1, 2021, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia opened an independent Club site in Portsmouth. This site provides youth in Portsmouth with: a safe and fun place for kids to grow and thrive after-school and during the summer; life-enhancing programs focused on academics, health, and leadership; trained staff who guide, coach, and motivate kids to be successful; healthy and nutritious meals daily; and a pool to include a swimming program.

Elizabeth River Crossings not only generously provided financial support, but they also arranged for another local program they help fund, the Elizabeth River Project’s ‘Learning Barge on Wheels’ to visit our Club. The mobile classroom travels locally to provide hands-on science and wetland education activities.

“As a company, we are proud to call Portsmouth home,” said David Sullivan, former chief executive officer of ERC, who retired on January 21, 2022. “We were so excited to hear that a Boys & Girls Club was being built in Portsmouth, we just had to be a part of it. The facility is truly incredible. The staff members and these programs are going to make a significant impact on young lives. That’s what it’s all about.” Kevin Will, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia, had this to say "Our partnership with Elizabeth River Crossings has provided financial assistance to our members in need as well as educational opportunities on sustainability to all of our children in Portsmouth. We look forward to an exciting partnership where together we can provide great opportunities and support to our youth in Portsmouth."

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia is proud to announce Elizabeth River Crossings as our newest corporate partner to help us continue our mission to “enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as caring, productive, responsible citizens.”
